The Popular "Expense Organizer" updated with Version 3.2

Posted at 09:23 AM on February 17, 2009 in Personal Finance, General as a favorite post.

Hi All,

Expense Organizer is by far the main reason people visit this site (100 downloads in a week) and I am not going to dissappoint them. The next version with some nice improvements is ready. With the current economic slowdown it makes more sense to know where your money is being spent now more than ever. You can Download it Here

[update] Version 3.2 is up with changes reported by technofriends.in

Dear Sir/Madam,

The user should have given an option to add more expense fields (eg. medical expenses will be in many days in a month, so it will be easy to input and get the details, instead of putting the value togeter in LHS).

Hi Raja,
Appreciate your feedback on the tool. You are right, even I have felt the need for more daily expense fields. I will try to address this in the next version

Hi,

I am started using your expense organizer.

This is amazing and liked it very much. It is more useful to track my expenses.

I found two difficulties.
I couldnot track how much amount in my hand. And also if i made a purchase using credit card, then amount in Hand is more compared to the expenses we had.

Can you please update the feature of adding expenses made using creditcard.

Once again thanking you for developing such a nice tool
-Ram

Hi Jigar,
Thanks. The problem with creating more columns or rows is that you might have to know a bit of excel to do it or else the formula and graphs might be disturbed. I am working on the next major version which should possible have more customizable options. If you really want this feature let me know, I can try and make it specific to you like I did for srivastava below

Hi simon
Yeah I am sending you the copy of my excel sheet

Hi srivatsava,
Thanks for your interest. I found that the problem is because you tried to insert additional rows (apart from the 13 provided).
I understand that it is a limitation but I had the 1024 x 768 users in mind when I did that and I did not want them to scroll.
So the short answer is you need to restrict your number of entries. Download the sheet again and try doing this. You can also use the daily expense fields for some items (if that helps)
If you really want it bad, I can try and re-do the excel sheet for you with more fields.

In any case the next major version (4.0) will have a bigger excel sheet with a lot of rows for items (some 20), so that proper users like you do not get bogged down.

Thanks
Simon

Hi nik, Thanks a lot. I will keep updating this and the tax planner, so do check back. I never knew until recently that CHIP CD had this. Which month/year was that.

I entered more details in the first page under the expense items i.e., which are fixed. But the additional details dont show in the monthly page. Any help

Hi Srivastava,
If you have entered in the yellow cells under 'Expense Items' in Settings Page it should get copied to the other sheets. If not 2 things could be wrong. For some reason your MS-Excel is misbehaving or you are having an old version of the expense organizer. You can send the problem report along with the attached sheet to simonpeterj@gmail.com. I will have a look and reply with corrections if any.

This template really works great.

Can there be some provision to increase the number of items of expences and investments as per user's requirement?

thanks
Comment posted on March 11th, 2009 at 01:29 PM
Hi Yogesh, I need to give that some thought. This template works without having to scroll on a 1024x768 resolution. Let me see how I can fit it in the next version.

Nandri Machan. Nothing like a boost up from a friend. It was a surprise for me as well that Chip magazine had this software.

Hi! downloaded expense organizer after reading about it in chip Mag.Good effort.
My Suggestion:1. The monthly page should have a display of cash in hand which should be automatically updated after any entry of Income or expense.2.The report page should have monthly totals of every head i.e. it should give monthly reports of all expense & income and not daily. I fail to understand the purpose of the report page being shown currently.

Hi gagan,
You are right about both of them. I will ensure that your comments will be incorporated in the next revision.
