My First MP3 Player – Mobiblu DAH-1500i

As usual I put in a lot of research for MP3 Players and since I was going to gift it to my wife, I paid a bit more attention to aesthetics as well. iPod was the obvious choice, but somehow I have started hating people promoting too much of Proprietary software/hardware like Sony and Apple and moreover the iPod was becoming a Cult for MP3 players and its dependency on iTunes will drive my wife mad. So my search became tedious until I found the Cube from Mobiblu. My first impression was ‘How did they manage?’. It was so small …

Notting Hill – A Classic

Anyone not reading my film posts for the first time, knows that they are not in chronological order, but in the order that I get to see them. I was so impressed by ‘Notting Hill’ that I am writing about it even though the movie is as old as 1999. The movie is a romantic comedy, both in equal proportions. Speaking of romance, it is so gently yet so deeply involved, so captivating, so emotional that it falls in the all time favorites for romantic films. Julia Roberts is at her best. Well she always is in so many other …

Mozhi – my all time favorite

It doesn’t happen always that you sit to watch a film and suddenly realize that it has made to your all time favorite top. Mozhi was such a film and it might well be some time before any other film dare challenge it. I am starting to like Prakash Raj for more than being a great actor. He has pulled off some spectacular movies as producer especially with Radhamohan. Mozhie is a sweet poetry of a physically challenged girl and a romantic hero who tries to win her heart. It is more than that, it has a great screenplay, awesome …

Veyil – a good movie

Produced by:Director Shankar, That is how it is displayed in the title and somehow I get the feeling that Shankar might after all be a very good producer than a director. His films, Kadhal, 23rd Pulikesi and now Veyil have done extremely well. His ‘S’ Productions which started off with Mudhalvan might have collected more in % income from the low budget films. Coming to Veyil, Pasupathi is growing stronger in his performance with each film and Veyil is no exception. Same goes true for bharath as well and no doubt he is the preferred hero for ‘S’ productions budget …

Language Problem

When I landed in bangalore I found that it was easy to interact in hindi with people. Almost everyone here seemed to know hindi. Once I was in a bus stop and I wanted to ask whether the bus was going to ‘Majestic’ and if not which buses would. I tried it in hindi and unfortunately the conductor did not seem to know hindi that well. He tried telling something to me in kannada which I could not understand much. We let it go and suddenly I realized that the bus was playing tamil songs. I asked him if he …

US and us

This is my second visit to Andover, Massachusetts, US, but much longer than the earlier one and thus enabling me to look more closely at the people and their customs. The first thing that strikes anyone from India will have to be the quality of roads and the driving pleasure here that is almost non-existant back in their city. The single most astonishing fact was the adherence to the traffic rules and regulations. I was amazed and it was not just staying behind the line when a RED is flashed in traffic signals, but respecting the STOP signs put everwhere …

Run and you will be safe

Consider that you are working in a multi-storeyed sophisticated building. Chances are high that you were taught by the fire squad team there, how to escape in case of fire. If you had ever attended that drill you will know that at the time of fire and asked to exit, you have to simply get up and start moving towards the exit (staircase) without any other thought. No saving your files, no shutting off your computer. No searching for valuables. Now consider that as you are reading this a fire breaks out. Will any of you stop and try to figure …

DINK, DINS and SINS

Well DINK stands for Double Income No Kids. It is not a new word by any means, and has been discussed in lengths in the west. But for bangalore and an urban India on a roll, it sure is a new phenomenon. It is about couples who are married (live together) earn and don’t want a kid. They just don’t feel like bringing up a kid. Either they are too busy working and are afraid that a kid might cut short their otherwise brilliant career or they are of the opinion that a kid is a hinderance to their blissful …

Cricket

After a looooooong time, atleast 5 years, I happened to play a proper cricket match (at Broadcom). I was waiting eagerly for the match for a week atleast and then the day came. It was Saturday, 15th of July. My wife did encourage me to play well though she actually preferred me staying back and taking care of Smitha (who was not feeling well) as she had exam duty on that day. But I ended up at the venue (Koramangala : St. John’s Medical college ground). I was apprehensive and so took to practice bowling. I then got the confidence …
