3 Idiots

The film is fun and made me laugh aloud a lot of times with its excellent comedy. The songs are amazing. My favorite was ‘Behete Hawa..’ but who can stop singing ‘All izz Well’. Aamir and co have acted well. Aamir does justice to a college going student look. The social message is good and Aamir should be praised for the way he handles such subjects. A strong message in a beautifully sugar coated movie. The film is not without its share of, shall we call it cinematic loopholes. I don’t understand what is a professor to do if his students …

Aayirathil Oruvan

It was the interval and munching some pop corns I was thinking that this film is the best attempted in Tamil Cinema to match a world class quality in action and adventure and also one of the finest films I have seen and there could be nothing in the second half that can take this away from such a superb film – unfortunately, I was wrong. The film starts off and never once misses its pace for the entire long first half. That is a credible thing. Most of the people would be amazed by the attention to detail, the …

Jai Ho A.R.Rehman

Rehman did India proud by winning double Oscars at the 81st Academy Awards. I was up at 6.30 and even without brushing my teeth was in front of T.V. Shortly my wife joined me and we were glued to it till 10.30 A.M jumping on various occasions first for Resul Pookutty, then for Rehman and also for Pinky. Finally it was a moment of great joy and pride to see the kids and the caste of Slumdog Millionaire for the Best Picture.

Robotic Rajni

After the super duper hit ‘Sivaji’ it has now been confirmed (ET and Rediff) that Rajni and Shankar are teaming up for ‘Robot’ (name might change later). The only thing that made me sad was that I was expecting Kamal to do it. But Rajni has his own class and let us hope that this turns out to be the best hit ever in India. It will be a science fiction movie costing a whooping 100 crores (costliest movie in India) and is said to be the dream movie of Shankar. I am damn sure that writer ‘Sujatha’ will be …

Notting Hill – A Classic

Anyone not reading my film posts for the first time, knows that they are not in chronological order, but in the order that I get to see them. I was so impressed by ‘Notting Hill’ that I am writing about it even though the movie is as old as 1999. The movie is a romantic comedy, both in equal proportions. Speaking of romance, it is so gently yet so deeply involved, so captivating, so emotional that it falls in the all time favorites for romantic films. Julia Roberts is at her best. Well she always is in so many other …

Mozhi – my all time favorite

It doesn’t happen always that you sit to watch a film and suddenly realize that it has made to your all time favorite top. Mozhi was such a film and it might well be some time before any other film dare challenge it. I am starting to like Prakash Raj for more than being a great actor. He has pulled off some spectacular movies as producer especially with Radhamohan. Mozhie is a sweet poetry of a physically challenged girl and a romantic hero who tries to win her heart. It is more than that, it has a great screenplay, awesome …

Veyil – a good movie

Produced by:Director Shankar, That is how it is displayed in the title and somehow I get the feeling that Shankar might after all be a very good producer than a director. His films, Kadhal, 23rd Pulikesi and now Veyil have done extremely well. His ‘S’ Productions which started off with Mudhalvan might have collected more in % income from the low budget films. Coming to Veyil, Pasupathi is growing stronger in his performance with each film and Veyil is no exception. Same goes true for bharath as well and no doubt he is the preferred hero for ‘S’ productions budget …

Dishoom

After the success of kadhal for Sandhya and Ram for Jeeva, the two have rocked another hit in Dishoom. Jeeva is a stunt man and an orphan. Sandhya accidentally comes in his life. She becomes a good friend and understands his profession, even recommends that he get married. Jeeva likes the care Sandhya takes and wishes to marry her, eventually falling in love. Sandhya refuses it but does give him hope that someday she might love him. Jeeva is full of hope and whether he suceeds or not is the story. The story might look feeble, but the screenplay is …

Kalvanin Kadhali

If you liked ‘New’ and were starting to become a fan of Surya in ‘Anbe Aruirae’, then you might enjoy this film. But for everyone else the film is a  disappointment. Surya looks like he is straight from the sets of Anbe-Aruirae. Nothing has changed for him, not even his costumes and he eventually does his baby talk throughout the film. Nayantara looks much better, in fact far better than what I saw in Gajni. Surya is a spoilt-brat and looks to enjoy girls. He acts as if he is in love with them, but once he has them, moves …

June.R

A sentimental film. Jothika is June.R, because she is an orphan and was found in the month of June and because one day while at a Cathedral she was so upset by other kids calling her an orphan, that the Sister (read Nun) there said that she was the daughter of Rose. Jyothika is in a marketing firm and looks like she is enjoying her life. But back home she talks with her virtual mother and yearns for motherly love. To hide this fact from co-workers, she gets food from a hotel and says that her mother had prepared it.Kushboo …
