SKORG - The History
SKORG - The History
Those who are patient enough to hear this are welcome. It all started with Siva Sekharan, another of my B.Tech friends suggested that he and Arun should make a website for our classmates. But they could not continue with their plans. I had by then started working for SCM Microsystems. After 8.00 PM I would dedicate to self learning and then it hit me that I can begin the web site work. But I was a big Zero in that (not that I am too far away from it now). So I started to learn the basics one by one, from HTML to CSS, from Javascript to PHP, then MySQL.
The birth of Softklick
I began with a site hosted at geocities. I named it SoftKlick. That marked the beginning. I was so excited that I sent a mail to all my classmates asking them to check it out!!!. But I was very dissapointed that only a few actually checked it out. Then I understood that it is not easy for people browsing at home to do it often. Looking at the site now, gives me an impression that it is my best work so far.
The Contest and Victory
Then I got an free account in Bravepages before moving my webpages to coolfreepages. I made the next major version of SKORG, and put it @ iwebland. That was when I learnt about Neopages, a hosting company that gave free hosting to anyone who wins a web contest conducted at Neopages.net. I put my SKORG site for the contest. I did not receive any great praises for it, but eventually became a winner with four others. That was a great day and I had 100 MB of free web space to play around with.
The death of SKORG
I always trouble my classmates asking them to visit my sites and comment on it. Of course there were a few kind hearted people who did it Pravish, Baptist, Mugilan in particular would give comments very seriously. Thanks guys for all that support. But then one day Roy the guy who maintains Neopages announced that he is going to close the free accounts and that was the end of SKORG @ neopages. I then concentrated only on the present Tabulas site (Simon + Kayarvizhy).
Rebirth of SKORG
An update on the skorg site. Roy has now decided to start neopages web hosting again and open applications for contest. For the earlier accounts that got deleted he is providing them again. So I jumped in and came up with http://skorg.neopages.net again. Thanks Roy.
