It was the interval and munching some pop corns I was thinking that this film is the best attempted in Tamil Cinema to match a world class quality in action and adventure and also one of the finest films I have seen and there could be nothing in the second half that can take this away from such a superb film - unfortunately, I was wrong.
The film starts off and never once misses its pace for the entire long first half. That is a credible thing. Most of the people would be amazed by the attention to detail, the grandeur and will be even trying to see if they are dreaming and is it indeed a tamil film that they are watching. The song "Un mela aasathan" adds to this and makes you want to cry in happiness. Had the film ended at the half way I feel it would have been a slight disappointment but one that would have been far better than having to sit through the second half and the climax. One word of caution - it is a 'A' rated film and is at the extreme end of it. Free flowing rough language, a higher overtone of sex and violence/blood to good amount. No faint hearted people please and see if you can leave out your children.
What starts off as a adventure film at its core becomes a drama and much more, a tradegy towards the end. I will not open up any spoilers here but I feel so sad for Selvaraghavan and what he could have achieved with a different screenplay in the second half. But though the screenplay lets you down, the grandeur and the attention to detail is still there.
But at the end of the day, you feel cheated as a child who was given the most amazing lollipop he had ever tasted but found that after having eaten half, it becomes bitter and you are forced to eat it till the end.

Jai Ho A.R.Rehman

Rehman did India proud by winning double Oscars at the 81st Academy Awards. I was up at 6.30 and even without brushing my teeth was in front of T.V. Shortly my wife joined me and we were glued to it till 10.30 A.M jumping on various occasions first for Resul Pookutty, then for Rehman and also for Pinky. Finally it was a moment of great joy and pride to see the kids and the caste of Slumdog Millionaire for the Best Picture.

Robotic Rajni
Posted at 03:36 PM on January 7, 2008 in Filmi Masti.
After the super duper hit 'Sivaji' it has now been confirmed (ET and Rediff) that Rajni and Shankar are teaming up for 'Robot' (name might change later). The only thing that made me sad was that I was expecting Kamal to do it. But Rajni has his own class and let us hope that this turns out to be the best hit ever in India. It will be a science fiction movie costing a whooping 100 crores (costliest movie in India) and is said to be the dream movie of Shankar. I am damn sure that writer 'Sujatha' will be involved a lot with this movie. (You remember En Ineeya Entira)
Let us all wish Rajni and Shankar and Robot a great success.

Notting Hill - A Classic
Posted at 11:44 PM on June 16, 2007 in Filmi Masti as a favorite post.
Anyone not reading my film posts for the first time, knows that they are not in chronological order, but in the order that I get to see them. I was so impressed by 'Notting Hill' that I am writing about it even though the movie is as old as 1999. The movie is a romantic comedy, both in equal proportions. Speaking of romance, it is so gently yet so deeply involved, so captivating, so emotional that it falls in the all time favorites for romantic films. Julia Roberts is at her best. Well she always is in so many other films as well. Excellent actor and so very natural. Hugh Grant portrays 'William Thacker' (I had to google to find his name as I was not aware) and he is soothingly calm and pleasant but does justice to his role as well.
On the comedy front too the film scores very well and is nicely integrated into the script. Songs need a special mention, especially 'She' by Elvis is top class. I was so captivated, I present below the video from 'YouTube' for your pleasure and also the lyrics if you plan to sing on behalf of someone, someone you love and care a lot. You will enjoy it. Believe me !!
May be the face I can't forget
The trace of pleasure or regret
May be my treasure or the price I have to pay
She
May be the song that summer sings
May be the chill that autumn brings
May be a hundred different things
Within the measure of a day
She
May be the beauty or the beast
May be the famine or the feast
May turn each day into a heaven or a hell
She may be the mirror of my dreams
The smile reflected in a stream
She may not be what she may seem
Inside her shell
She
Who always seems so happy in a crowd
Whose eyes can be so private and so proud
No one's allowed to see them when they cry
She
May be the love that cannot hope to last
May come to me from shadows of the past
That I'll remember till the day I die
She
May be the reason I survive
The why and wherefore I'm alive
The one I'll care for through the rough in ready years
Me
I'll take her laughter and her tears
And make them all my souvenirs
For where she goes I've got to be
The meaning of my life is
She
She, oh she

Mozhi - my all time favorite
Posted at 06:14 AM on May 16, 2007 in Filmi Masti.
It doesn't happen always that you sit to watch a film and suddenly realize that it has made to your all time favorite top. Mozhi was such a film and it might well be some time before any other film dare challenge it. I am starting to like Prakash Raj for more than being a great actor. He has pulled off some spectacular movies as producer especially with Radhamohan. Mozhie is a sweet poetry of a physically challenged girl and a romantic hero who tries to win her heart. It is more than that, it has a great screenplay, awesome melodious songs, good character portrayal by almost everybody and a comedy that Vadivel and Vivek would be envious about. It is a jolly good movie. Go and have fun.
Rated : 80/100 on my scale

Veyil - a good movie
Posted at 01:51 PM on January 18, 2007 in Filmi Masti.
Produced by:Director Shankar, That is how it is displayed in the title and somehow I get the feeling that Shankar might after all be a very good producer than a director. His films, Kadhal, 23rd Pulikesi and now Veyil have done extremely well. His 'S' Productions which started off with Mudhalvan might have collected more in % income from the low budget films.
Coming to Veyil, Pasupathi is growing stronger in his performance with each film and Veyil is no exception. Same goes true for bharath as well and no doubt he is the preferred hero for 'S' productions budget films. The story revolves around two brothers and how each one faces life, or how life throws them apart. A very good movie and if you ok with a few sentiments then you can have a go. But if you are fond of strong characterizations and look forward to films like Kadhal then it is a must watch.
Surprisingly the songs have come out very well. I was surprised to see very good photography too. 'Veyilodu vilayadi...' and 'Uruguthae, Maruguthae...' are excellent songs.
I loved the film. Hope you will too
