Three days back, I was listening to spotify on the way to office and ‘Kana Kaanum Kalangal’ from 7G Rainbow colony played out. As this was one of my favorite songs, I suddenly had the urge to find the lyricist and when it turned out to be Na Muthukumar, I had this sinking feeling – it is not going to happen again – he will not pen another song. Then I thought I should make a post on the song but did not get around to doing it untill today (Aug 14) and when I was reading about him I was awe stuck when I realized that today is the 10th anniversary of his death – just sheer coincidence.
For many their favorite Muthukumar song is ‘Ananda Yazhai Meetugirai’ or ‘Azhagu’ both winning him national awards. For me it is Kana Kaanum Kalangal’ (though I am also in love with ‘Ninaithu Ninaithu’ and ‘Veyilodu Vilayadi’ as well). There is something deeply energetic about ‘this ‘Kana Kaanum’ though, the lyrics are absolutely fantastic and my favorite being ” நடைபாதை கடையில் உன் பெயர் படித்தால் நெஞ்சுக்குள் ஏனோ மயக்கங்கள் பிறக்கும்”. It is a simple line but one that truly portrays the essense of being in love. Thanks to Yuvan and Selvaragavan as well for adding more flavor to the already outstanding lyrics.
