10 Years and on…

It was 10 years back when as part of a blogging community called ‘Tabulas’ I had started to blog. A short analysis reveals that I blog a lot in blocks mostly when on official travel outside India (I get loads of free time). They also mimic my professional life’s load. For me a blog is a digital diary with an option of exposing certain pages – the public pages. I have more private posts in this blog than public ones. What do I do with them. There is nothing so funny as to go back and read your own posts …

Technically Yours…

Those close to me know that I am a gadjet freak. While I have bought a lot of tech items what many don’t know is that I beat the sh*t out of them before I retire them. So my Wii which has seen 5 years is still used everyday and is being worked upon (emulation, dos, etc) almost every week. Same goes for my TV, Laptop, Tab and other devices. So essentially I eek out every last paise that I paid for them before they can die on me and in most cases I gift them to someone known for …

OMG

If you have ever read my previous posts on religious views, you would know how strongly I am opposed to religion and religious practices (religion not god) and when a film comes by which portrays exactly the principles inside you, what is there to not like. The film was the need of the hour with lots of violence happening in the name of religion. The best dialogue in the movie comes at the end “People are not god-loving, they are god-fearing”. How true. How many of us think God as a friend. Often the portrayal is of a master-slave relationship. …

Choices – boon or bane

In the good old days, people that I knew and grew up with did not have many choices in life. They just took what life gave them. When it came to buying a TV, my father had just one choice and later when he upgraded that TV after 15 years, he still did not have to fret about it. His first 2 wheeler was a choice between TVS 50 and Bajaj Chetak. I know he loved Chetak, his heart was on it but his mind vary of budget said TVS and he went with it. Not just things, when it …

Got my Samsung Galaxy S2

I was very happy with my old phone. Don’t even remember the name but it was Nokia’s first color mobile in India. My wife and colleagues would insist me to change it, stating that even office boys had better models. They were right. The lift operator had a much better one. But I was never impressed by mobile phones. They were meant for calling and that was it. Also the battery life was pathetic in most modern phones. I was used to charging once a week. Finally I told her that if I start looking for a phone I would …

Sehwag – The Machine The Man

In the ongoing India-Srilanka-New Zealand, India won their second match comfortably after losing by 200 runs in their first. They got the bonus point as well. The only sour point was that Sehwag who batted brilliantly ( and patiently) was cunningly denied a century by the Sri lankans when Randiv deliberately bowled a no ball. Sehwag hit that to 6 but according to ICC rules the match ends when no-ball is called and hence he was left behind at 99. Post match he was inquired about it and I thought he would mock saying anyway he hit it to 6 …

The Marathon Match @ Wimbledon

We casually browsed Wimbledon.org to see if Federer is up to another fight and what do we see.. an 8 hour long game with 40 all. Not the deuce, 40 games each between 23rd seeded Isner and Mahut. They had continued after bad weather stopped play the previous day with 2 sets each. And as we looked on the 5th set went for a long time before it closed at (can you imagine)  59 all due to bad weather again. The next day they went on to play till Isner won it at 70-68. Amazing match and we watched it …

New York [FT]

New York was not as tempting as say a ‘Niagara Falls’ or ‘Great Wall of China’ but the Statue of Liberty symbolizes USA and hence it was sort of an item somewhere in the list that needs to be ticked, whether it is worth the effort or not. So on a Friday night at 11.30 PM I decided to go ahead with the plan. Another colleague was to join me and we were to start next morning. I slept that day at 01:00 AM and woke up again at 5.15 AM. We left at around 6.20 AM. I drove for …
